In a time of war soldiers are assigned different tasks. For example; the soldiers we hear about the most are those on the front lines. The soldiers that we hear the least about are the ones that serve as support to those that are on the front lines.
In the ministry, we too are at war, spiritual war with our adversary, Satan. Just like the military, the ministry has brothers and sisters on the front lines and the ministry has those that are rarely seen that serve as support to those on the front lines.
In war, there are times when soldiers are captured and held as “Prisoners of war” also known as “P.O.W. s”. A P.O.W. can hold any rank and may be assigned to any position.
In the ministry there are times when a brother or sister can be held as a spiritual “Prisoner of War” by our enemy. The most common method our adversary uses is to raise fear in the lives of believers. Fear in the believer can appear in many areas of our lives. We may have a fear of driving at night; this will keep the believer from attending night church services or night Bible studies. We may have a fear of our appearance and not want to be around people. No matter what the fear is the results are the same. The believer becomes a “Prisoner of War.” They are held by our adversary Satan.
Romans 8:14-15 says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit), these are sons of God.” V15 “for you (place your name here) did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear (become a spiritual P.O.W.), but you received (You already have within you) the spirit of adoption by whom we cry out “abba, Father.” (NKJ)
Abba in the Greek is translated; Pa or Daddy. Abba is an intimate word. Verse 15 shows us the intimacy we have with our father. There is no reason for any believer to even have fear in their lives. One method Satan will use to ensnare the believer is to divide and conquer. This is an old military tactic; In short time a believer can find himself separated from his brothers and sisters in Christ and before he knows it, he is a P.O.W.
How do we avoid becoming a spiritual P.O.W.? We must train. This means that we must attend Bible studies, worship services and stay in fellowship with our fellow spiritual warriors.
When we study God’s word we learn who we are in Jesus Christ. When we learn who we are, we can then stand on God’s promises to us. Just as Romans 8:14-15 says, we are believers who can and should be led by the Holy Spirit, we are sons and daughters of God, we have the Holy Spirit within us, and therefore there is no room for bondage in fear in our lives, ever.
Do not allow fear to rule any part of your life. If fear starts to raise it’s ugly head, read Romans 8:14-15 and stand on the promises of God. Do not allow fear to stop you from serving God. We serve God not out of obligation or duty. We serve God because we love Him.
Fear is bondage. There is no place in the believer’s life for fear.
