Bondservant part 2
Let’s look a little deeper into this: within the business world, there are two types of basic relationships. The most common of the two is the “at arms length”.
At arms length is best explained as a person that goes into a store, pays for an item and leaves the store.
The other business relationship is known as a “fiduciary” relationship. Within a corporation, the C.E.O. and Board members have a fiduciary responsibility to the stock holders. They must place the interest and responsibilities of the share holders above their own interests.
How many Christians do we know that have an “at arms length” relationship with our Lord. Do you have a “fiduciary” relationship with our Lord? Do you place the interests and responsibilities of our Lord above your own? Are you a “Bondservant” of Jesus Christ of your own free will for life? Have you been sealed by the Holy Spirit?
Paul did in fact declare that he is a bondservant. Let’s look and see how he applied the word: Galatians 1:10 says, “For do I now persuade men or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ”.
We have all seen men and women of God that seem to be more concerned about pleasing men rather than our Lord. They are not bondservants.
Paul again writes in 2Corinthins 4:5, “For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake”.
Paul has not only declared that he is a bondservant of Jesus Christ, but has also declared that he is a bondservant to his fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
Paul is stating that he will place his responsibilities to Christ above his own interests. Paul goes further by stating that he will place the interest of his fellow brother and sisters above his own. Would you do that? Could you do that?
Paul also states in Ephesians 6:5-6 this,” Bondservants, (Paul is speaking to believers who have a job outside of the ministry) be obedient to those who are your masters (employers) according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ, (v.6) not with eyeservice as men pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.”
As men and women of God, Christians, we are to place the interest of our employers above our own. If we have a job outside of the ministry, we are to give our employer 110% of our attention and loyalty.
Bondservant. What a wonderful word. I love the way this one word opens God’s word to us. I am a bondservant of Jesus Christ. I will try to always place the interest of Jesus Christ above my own. I will try to always place the interests of my fellow brother and sister above my own. I will try to always place the interests of my employer above my own. How about you, are you a bondservant of Jesus Christ?
